# Jira

> Install the Otto app in Jira Cloud so Otto can pick up and work issues.

## Prerequisites

* Jira Cloud (Jira Server and Data Center aren't supported)
* Jira admin permissions, to install apps

## Connect Jira

<Steps>
  <Step title="Install the Otto app">
    In Otto, go to **Settings → Integrations → Jira** and click **Install Otto in Jira**. Follow Atlassian's prompts to install the app on your Jira site.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Confirm the connection">
    Return to Otto. It detects the installation and shows **Connected**.

    If it doesn't, click **Claim Connection** and enter your Jira Cloud ID to link the installation manually.
  </Step>
</Steps>

Otto's comments and updates in Jira appear as **Otto**, not as a member of your team.

## Add rules

Rules decide which Jira issues Otto works on. Otto picks up an issue that matches any enabled rule.

1. In **Settings → Integrations → Jira**, click **Add Rule**.
2. Add conditions, such as project, issue type, and labels.
3. Link the rule to an Otto project, which sets the repository Otto works in.
4. Enable the rule.

## Approving plans

When Otto posts an implementation plan on an issue, add the `otto-approved` label to approve it and start implementation.

## Uninstalling

In Jira, go to **Settings → Apps → Manage apps**, find **Otto**, and click **Uninstall**. Otto detects the uninstall and updates your workspace's connection.

## Troubleshooting

| Issue | Fix |
| - | - |
| Still "Not connected" after installing | Refresh the Otto page. If it still shows, use **Claim Connection**. |
| Otto doesn't respond to issues | Check that at least one enabled rule matches the issue's project and type. |
