# Linear

> Connect Linear so Otto can pick up and work tickets.

## Connect Linear

1. In Otto, go to **Settings → Integrations → Linear** and click **Connect Linear**.
2. Sign in to Linear and authorize Otto.

## Add rules

Rules decide which Linear issues Otto works on. Otto picks up an issue that matches any enabled rule.

1. In **Settings → Integrations → Linear**, click **Add Rule**.
2. Name the rule and add conditions, such as team, labels, status, and assignment (**Assigned Only** or **Unassigned Only**).
3. Choose the **Linked Project**: the Otto project, and so the repository, Otto works in for matching issues.

## Tips

* **Use a dedicated status or label** for Otto's work, for example an `Otto` status between Todo and In Review, or an `otto` label, and match it in a rule.
* **Start narrow.** Begin with one team and a label, check the results, then widen the rule.
* **Write specific tickets.** "Add avatar upload: JPG/PNG, max 5 MB, stored in S3" gets better results, and uses less context, than a paragraph of background.
