# Workspace settings

> Review settings that apply to every repository in your workspace.

Owners and admins change these in **Settings → Reviews**. Members can view them. Each setting applies to every repository in the workspace; a repository's [`otto.yml`](/configuration/otto-yml) can override most of them for that repository.

## Automatic PR reviews

Turns Otto's automatic pull request reviews on or off for the whole workspace. Turning it off pauses automatic reviews without removing members, integrations, or other automation.

To turn reviews off for a single repository instead, set `reviews.enabled: false` in its [`otto.yml`](/configuration/skipping-reviews).

## Review depth

The default depth for every review: **Standard**, **Deep** (the default for new workspaces), or **Max**. Changes apply to the next review. See [Review depth](/configuration/review-depth) for how `otto.yml` raises or lowers it per path.

## Review instructions

Up to 4,000 characters of guidance Otto follows on every review in the workspace: areas to focus on, conventions to enforce, or things to skip. For example:

```text theme={null}
Flag any database query inside a loop.
Don't comment on import order — our linter handles it.
```

For a single repository, its `otto.yml` instructions and then its `OTTO.md` take precedence. See [Instructions](/configuration/instructions).

## Review comments (GitHub)

How Otto posts its review summary on GitHub pull requests:

| Option | Behavior |
| - | - |
| **Update a single comment** (recommended) | Otto keeps one summary comment per PR and updates it on each full review, with a confidence trend and a short history of past runs. Verdicts and new inline findings are still posted. |
| **Post a new comment each review** | Every review posts its full summary as a new comment, so each run stays in the PR timeline. |

Azure Repos always posts a new summary thread on every review.

## Otto Approval check (GitHub)

A merge gate that passes when Otto **or** a human with write access approves the latest commit. Off by default. See [Merge gates](/setup/merge-gates#the-otto-approval-check) before turning it on.
